School & Community Connections Working Group
The purpose of the School & Community Connections Working Group is to better connect employers, local schools, and the greater community in order to better attract and retain local students/employees for the current and future workforce, while bridging workforce development gaps in schools and local businesses.
The Workforce Collaborative collected the information in the School and Community Connections Resource Guide from local businesses, organizations, and schools to better connect all of these entities, and to more comprehensively address workforce needs and solutions throughout our community.
This Guide is intended to make it easier for employers, local schools, and community agencies to identify and expand workforce development opportunities for youth and adults in our community.
This Guide is a working document that will be updated regularly as contacts, interests, and availability changes. If you would like to have your company’s information included in the Guide, please complete the EMPLOYER SURVEY or SCHOOL SURVEY as appropriate if you haven’t already done so!
Career Exploration Fair
The Working Group collectively identified a “Career Exploration Fair” as a priority project for 2022. The Fair will take place on September 28th, 2022, at the Laurel Oaks Career Campus in Wilmington. Planning discussions are currently taking place, and we welcome you to any upcoming meetings (see below) to learn more and get involved with this exciting project!
Student Tours at Clinton Memorial Hospital
We are in the process of working with school staff in the area high schools to coordinate tour and immersion experiences at Clinton Memorial Hospital for high school students.
If a business/employer is interested in partnering with the schools to host student tours of their facility, they can contact the schools directly using the contents of the Resource Guide, or contact the School & Community Connections Working Group leadership (listed below) for direct assistance.
The next meeting of the Working Group will take place on June 3rd, 2022 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.) at Laurel Oaks. Please stay tuned for details soon!
