Every Election Day, thousands of Ohioans play an important role in our democracy by helping to operate polling places. Ohio’s Precinct Election Officials (PEOs) work hard to ensure their neighbors can vote with ease on Election Day, while helping to safeguard the process so all Ohioans can have confidence in the results.

PEOs are assigned by party affiliation to ensure a balance within the Precinct. PEOs are expected to act as a non-partisan representative of the Board of Elections on Election day and assist all voters in the process of voting without political bias.

Each precinct team works together to setup in the morning and pack up election supplies at the end of the day. Many voting locations have more than one precinct working together, and the spirit of comradery and patriotism brings PEOs back to work elections repeatedly. Although it is a long day, you will have the opportunity to take breaks and share a potluck meal with your fellow PEOs, and meet and greet voters, friends and neighbors. Under the guidance of your experienced VLM (Voting Location Manager) you will feel confidant to carry out the necessary duties assigned to you and ensure a safe and secure election for the voters in your polling location.

We are seeking people with excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, critical thinking skills, the ability to work as a team member, enthusiasm for the democratic process of voting, and the energy to withstand a long day. All PEOs must complete one training session for which they are paid $25.  PEOs are paid for Election day between $101.50 and $146 depending on which job they are assigned.
